Introducing yet another new column to The House Of Dandridge, we have Trans4Digital! As an early holiday gift, Chauncey’s housemate Edwin aka The Q Raider suprised him with a digital usb turntable. The machine has the power to play records through your computer and transfer vinyl into mp3s! This is certainly not a new and profound instrument of technology by far but using a turntable is strangely foreign to mixmaster DJ Chauncey D. He began his career using compact discs and a few years ago transferred completely digital and uses Traktor to mix his sets. This column will feature a newly digitalized track chosen at random from hundreds of records lining the walls of Edwin and Chauncey’s apartment. You’ll also get a personal review of the track by either Chauncey D or The Q Raider or sometimes both! Below is the very first Trans4-2Digital download! As you can see in the photo up above, we’ve got lots of transferring to do!
After hearing the original version of the SoulXpres track “Get Down”, we weren’t quite sure whether we liked it. The vocals were wonderfully raw and singer Nina Spraggins performed a fantastic freestyle over the slick beat and post disco arrangement, but the repetition of the lyrics and improvisation grew a little tiresome and uninspiring. Fortunately, Tapio Schnaars trims off the fat and accentuates the sexy vocals with some amazing breakdowns and dub action. Download and take a listen for yourself!
