the world premiere of his new video ‘music & me’ occurred on monday, october 18th.
the world will never be the same.
superfriend and status quotient member, SIRPAUL has been making music for quite some time now. we’ve also been a fan for quite some time now. we’ve experienced, admired and observed each progression both sonically and visually. this video, directed by adam sauermilch, catapults SIRPAUL’s sorcery to a higher level. his videos have always pushed boundaries through avant garde cinematography, envelope pushing images and characters, bold concepts and interesting choices in storyline and movement. they all do their job perfectly, propelling the song they are kindred with into a surreal, shadowy landscape for each character SIRPAUL transforms into to temporarily call home. the much anticipated release of his newest creation more than lives up to its expectations, with SIRPAUL displaying a deeply hidden vulnerability masked by a steely, tough exterior that takes the perfect, pop masterpiece of a song and yanks it through a vortex of the daunting power of celebrity and stardom. SIRPAUL comes out on top, forever changing the guests of an a-list cocktail party into a group of hedonistic servants to do his bidding. we’re so happy that we knew him back when he was human
even if the man that bleeds with the unique talent that is sirpaul was not a buddy of mine, i would still be amazed by his work. one of the most substantial reasons is because he does every single part of the production himself. his music has a gallantly retro energy to it twisted up and around with a strong pull of techno, a few jabs of funk here and there channelled through the mind and voice of a gentler type of cyberpunk. you can tell he loves to dance. you can tell he loves to dream. you can tell he is serious about enjoying each moment of his process…and he’s got great hair too! (haha) i am very interested in witnessing how he chooses to perform the songs from his new collection of talismans. i was fortunate enough to recieve an advance copy of ‘objectified’ and the songs are all amazing and his hard work has certainly paid off. i do recall my heart dropping a few months ago when i witnessed him carrying his giant, wounded computer into the mac store and up to the genius bar one evening with a very worried yet stoic look on his face. i knew that his passion was trapped inside that sometimes blinking box and obviously everything worked out because his new album is brimstone!

SIRPAUL – Music & Me [Reviews]
Posted by j.ly on June 16, 2010

Lady GaGa is a favorite here at That’s My Jam, but even we have to admit that some of her latest work has “devolved” into dissertation-quality think pieces. Does anyone make enjoyable dance-pop that requires little thought and plenty of feel-good?
Fortunately yes. Such qualities saturate SIRPAUL’s latest effort, Music & Me, which is full of electronic-based cuts that manage to include catchy verses and choruses.
This is done quite effortlessly on “Don’t Stop (Break the Beat),” an anthemic banger that pays tribute to the party-starters of the past while concurrently finding its place among its contemporary competition. “Don’t Stop” sets the tone for the mellowed out “Give It Up,” which uses metaphorical computer references to center the echoing, transistor-laced groove.
“Music & Me” picks things up again, as SIRPAUL romances the melody that’s at once Chromeo’s “Fancy Footwork” and GaGa’s “Starstruck.” “Mistaken,” on the other hand, is heavy on the disco and the beat crafted here could play alongside some of Donna Summer’s classics, with few recognizing SIRPAUL’s work as a 2010 release.
The playful “Love Taboo” also conveys a time period and genre, specifically late ’90s/early ’00s pop made famous by the likes of Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys. However, the song has more adult themes, yet remains modern enough that one can’t help but think that this is what pop would have evolved into had the genre remained in that turn of the century sound.
Plenty of other vibes are present on the disc, from the cosmic (“U”), to the closet one can come to a dance ballad (“Colors”), to the lyrically complex (“Deal with the Devil”). The inclusion makes the compilation a guilty pleasure, yet interesting and engaging, and without trying to provoke thought.
