beetlejuice is dj chauncey d’s monthly party that takes place on the first sunday of every month at nowhere bar in the east village.  in its second year, ‘beetlejuice’ currently remains the most successful sunday night soiree at the delicious dive. nowhere is located at 322 east 14th street between 1st and 2nd avenues.

‘beetlejuice‘ was born out of a drunken summer night conversation at the bar between chauncey and friends combined with the need to fill an empty slot once a month on the bar’s very well designed schedule.   he and friends discussed their undying love for late 80s and early 90s pop music along with underground gothic and techno tracks from the same time period and felt that attention to that ‘in-between period’ was lacking in nyc nightlife.  a few months later…’beetlejuice’ (named after the tim burton classic released in 1988) was born.  the party features tunes released strictly between 1986 and 1995 along with visuals to match.  it’s a stroll down memory lane and occasionally features ‘tribute’ nights to artists that had enormous creative output during that timeframe including madonna, prince and more.

22 years ago on Sunday, August 5th, 1990, The Blond Ambition Tour aired on HBO and Z100 LIVE simultaneously. On vacation with his family, without cable access, a very young Chauncey listened to the entire show with no visuals to associate with the most talked about pop concert of the year. Having recorded the show on VHS back at home while away, he had to wait almost two full weeks before he could watch the show and match the audio ingrained in his memory with the visuals. Already a Madonna superfan, this moment in Madonna history pushed Chauncey way over the ‘borderline” into megafan lunacy, a glorious ailment that has remained with him to this day. On the anniversary of that broadcast, The House Of Dandridge brings you Beetlejuice : The 4th Annual Madonna Worship Night!

Featuring rare videos on the screen, rare and popular tracks and remixes through the speakers, drink specials throughout the night, a trivia contest and more to be announced…one of The Queen of Pop’s biggest fans takes you from Emmy and The Emmys all the way through MDNA in one night! Since the holidays are upon us, everyone has toy drives, fundraisers and benefits attached to their December parties. Falling a few days after World AIDS Day, Chauncey and Elisa will have craft and art supplies available as well as postcard size easels at Nowhere Bar for you to make your very own postcard for Visual AIDS’ Annual “Postcards From The Edge” event held in January. We’ll have markers, paint, paintbrushes, pieces of cloth, glitter, glue and magazine clippings. Feel free to bring your own special supplies and join others in making art with a purpose!

Chauncey throws out all the rules of Beetlejuice and plays a night of classics mixed with the brimstone beats of today and beyond! Named after the sequel to Paris Is Burning, Beetlejuice : How Do I Look? will feature a Vogueing Contest at midnight and a bevy of ferocious house tracks and grimey grooves to keep you dancing and drinking all night long! If you have any Pride left in you…which I’m positive most of you shall…come and show us your skills on the runway and prance until last call.

Couture looks and fierce frocks are recommended to compete with the sickening soundtrack being conjured up. You’ll need the day off the next day and most of you have it anyway.
