chauncey has been a huge fan of powerhouse dj/producer timo maas since he first discovered him back before he added those two letters “d” and “j” to his name.   timo is an original for sure…incorporating the sadistic percussion and formula of techno into his mix of sleek, chunky and often cunty breakbeats.  some of you might remember him for his remix of madonna’s ‘don’t tell me’ from the music album but timo maas has been doing it and doing it well for a long time before that and since.  one of his finest moments where he combined sci-fi kitsch with the magic of kelis was from his ‘loud’ collection with ‘help me’.  this track, along with many other maas produced rocky gems, remain chauncey’s favourites.

the mix he submitted to brooklynradio is a slinky, sneaky, tribal onslaught that will get you in the mood for much more than love.   in order to stream and download you have to register with the site but it is so worth it.  kill two birds with one stone!

here’s what brooklynradio had to say about the new timo maas podcast:

If there’s one thing we’ve learned from being on this earth long enough, it’s that everything comes back again. In the late ’90s, the synthy strain of Eurodisco, trance, came to rule the clubs and make DJs into global rock stars. While it has fallen out of favor with the electronic community, its blueprint has been copied in the pop world for humungo singles over the past few years. Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and the rest of today’s class of hitmakers use its stadium choruses and propulsive beat to win over the radio. Even hip-hop has embraced its mass appeal: Pitbull anyone? This has forced its underground champions to go in an opposite direction. The German representing Timo Maas, once an imperial ambassador of the sound, has gone back to his techno roots. It’s a welcome jump back into the darker side of his influences. This week, we’re glad to bring you that side for a mix he did for Select Sessions. Let’s go.

This looks interesting no?
