The campaign byline for The Pop-Up Museum of Queer History is “If you don’t know you have a past, how can you believe you have a future?”.  A more meaningful question could hardly be asked and is so pertinent considering the current mindset of a lot, if not most, gay youth.   Help keep LGBT History alive…there are only 39 days left for this fundraising campaign!   Visit their indiegog site by clicking the image above and share with your friends.   Thank you Davi Cohen for bringing this matter to our attention!  xo

The Pop-Up Museum of Queer History is a grassroots organization that transforms empty spaces into temporary autonomous shrines dedicated to celebrating the rich, long, and largely unknown histories of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people. We believe that our community – and especially our youth – deserve to know our history. If you don’t know you have a past, you can’t believe you have a future.

In cooperation with the Leslie Lohman Gay Art Foundation, the next Museum will pop up in NYC from August 6 – 25th. We need your help! We have artists, academics, and interested historians (amateur and professional!) creating exhibits on everything from intersex immigrants in the early 1900s, to the life of Carl van Vechten, to oral histories of American queers. We have a screening series of historical lesbian movies. We have a professional development class designed to teach secondary school teachers the importance of including queer lives and events in their curricula. Now, all we need is the money to make this happen.

The Impact

The Pop-Up Museum will make queer history visible in a fun, engaging way. We will show that queer history didn’t begin with Stonewall, isn’t only found in New York or San Francisco, and isn’t just about well-off, white communities. We will bring our installations to any community interested in partnering with us. We will actively work with educato
