FIGMENT Opens 2012 Calls for Art!

Frosty winds may still be tugging at your hair, but the summer season is already tugging at our heartstrings. We are getting excited—and with good reason! The Calls for Art for our FIGMENT 2012 events in Jackson, MS, Boston, and New York City are now open, as are the Calls for Art for our fantastic summer-long programs in New York. (The Call for Art for Detroit will be open soon.) To help our 2012 events be as spectacular as they can be, please join us this Friday at Nolita’s Mardi Gras Party in New York this Friday and make sure to save the date for Groundbreaking in SoHo on April 4—we promise it’ll be something special. See you at FIGMENT!

New York season-long Calls for Art now open

Also returning in the summer of 2012 are FIGMENT’s summer-long interactive exhibitions on Governors Island—and Calls for Art are now open!

This year’s FIGMENT Minigolf Course theme is “Arcade”—let your imagination run wild as you reinterpret the graphics, actions, and player participation of your favorite video games, pinball machines, and shooting galleries of old as minigolf holes. To register and submit for Minigolf, click here.

Described in past years as “Playful and thought-provoking large-scale installations that are not just a must-see but a must-experience” by The New Yorker, for our 2012 Sculpture Garden we are looking for artists who dream big and know how to build for the apocalypse. To register and submit for the Sculpture Garden, click here.

Both the Minigolf Course and Sculpture Garden require a $10 registration fee (in the form of a tax deductible donation to FIGMENT). The deadline to register and submit is March 8, 2012 for both.

Last but not least, we have teamed up with ENYA and SEAoNY once more to host our third City of Dreams Pavilion Competition. This year, the competition organizers have decided to slow down the frenetic pace of the competition, opening submissions now for a temporary pavilion to be built on Governors Island in 2013. Register now! Registration closes on April 1, 2012, and the final deadline is May 1, 2012. The registration fee is $20 for students, $50 for individuals, and $80 for teams.
