saturday night, we attended quite a magical show at the triad theater on the upper west side in manhattan. right smack dab in the middle of gay pride season 2010, sirpaul scheduled a one night only performance at the historic cabaret spot and positively turned a fourteen song set into a religious experience. the entire night, sirpaul was supported by the amazing energy and background vocals (plus gorgeous smile) of his cousin james contrino as well as none other than highly acclaimed nyc dj alex lauterstein providing the musical arrangements via his tiny but powerful laptop. the show opened with seductoress jessie riley, who played the ‘black widow’ in sirpaul’s ‘killer‘ video, exchanging tightly choreographed and playful stabs with paul during his ‘killer’ opening number. throughout the set, you could see the passion in sirpaul’s every step and every note as he performed for a group of people that not only admired him but that he admired as well for a variety of reasons. his banter in between songs was that of a confident musician and artist who knew the stage like the back of his hand, even though this was the first theatrical interpretation of his brand new album and the first show he had concieved in a few years. one of the shows highlights was “you”, a song he had written for the love of his life paul salvatore petersen and the electricity between paul and paul almost made you feel like you were a fly on the wall watching the magic that exists between two people that share a love so strong. look for an exclusive interview of sirpaul by the house of dandridge very soon!
here is a short little video clip we managed to record featuring a mashup of sirpaul’s ‘don’t stop’ and debbie deb’s ‘when i hear music’. the beginning of the song (unfortunately we missed it on film) featured a hot insert of madonna’s ‘music’. this is just a taste of the sense assault that was sirpaul’s performance! sirpaul’s sister cherylynn joined her brother and cousin james onstage for this end of the night number that rocked the house for sure!
here are some photos we took secretly shhhhh…
