TV for Rich People Just Got a Whole Lot Funnier Thanks to Mike Albo

What’s a very funny lifestyle and fashion columnist to do when he loses a regular column with The New York Times? Move to television! Mike Albo, co-author of the very funny The Underminer and member of comedy troupe Unitard (recently covered by QS here), has done exactly that in the wake of the somewhat recent controversy surrounding a Thrillist travel junket to Jamaica that forced him to forfeit his regular “Critical Shopper” column for The New York Times.

Albo didn’t just move onto any old television network, but rather the luxury channel Plum TV, which services exclusive tourist destinations and rich person hideaways as Sun Valley, The Hamptons, Aspen, Colorado, and Martha’s Vineyard. Under the guise of searching for essentials, he mintzes his way through NoLiTa shopping at largely European-owned independent boutiques. While he claims at the end that he didn’t melt his credit card, I can’t help but feel like he’s making very good on his statement upon leaving the Times to try on cashmere sweaters he can’t afford for other publications. I, for sure, can’t afford these so called essentials either.

But whatever – it’s really fun to watch someone with actual charm and personality try on weird shielded rockstar sunglasses, ridiculously obscure fragrances, and skimpy bathing suits.

This looks interesting no?
