Dear Candy,
My best friend Katy who some would call my fag hag for sure has been annoying me almost to the breaking point lately. I started dating this guy Gregory, who just recently became a bartender about two months ago at the same restaurant she waits tables at. I’ve been stopping by his job after work to hang out with him and spend time with him. Whenever her shift is over she finishes up her sidework and immediately comes downstairs and hangs out with us the entire time…commandeering the conversation and not really letting either of us get a word in edgewise. I love hanging out with her and all but would like to just spend some time somewhat alone with my new beau…watching him do his thing and having fun flirting across the bar. The reason I met him is obviously because I was hanging out at her restaurant in the first place and I can’t obviously ask her to leave us alone at her ‘house’ so to speak. How do I tell her to back off a bit without offending her? Gregory seems to be getting a little bit annoyed I can tell even though he just grins and laughs along with her. We have quite the opposite schedules most of the week and a lot of times…hanging at the bar is some of the only time we get to see each other except for maybe the one or two nights a week he’s off. I don’t want to offend Katy but I really, really like Gregory. What should I do Candy?
Please Help,
Sticky Sitch
And here’s what Candy replied…
Dear Sticky,
I can only say to you, talk to your hag. Just don’t do it in the restaurant.
Instead, take her out for a mani-pedi (always fun) and bring up the fact that Gregory’s schedule at the restaurant isn’t jiving with yours and that you two need to find a way to steal a few moments together. Yes, my friend, you’re going to include her in the mix and she will volunteer to give you guys a little breathing room. You ‘need’ her help to find some alone time with your beau!
Just remember, make it seem like HER idea. You’ll be golden!
If it doesn’t work, call me and we’ll drown our sorrows in a cocktail as some other restaurant.
Hugs and Hershey Kisses,
Candy
